TUSCALOOSA - Ervin "Gene" James went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2018 at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; his parents, Ervin and Marie; and his sister, Deborah Jo.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis (Frances); sons, Jeremy (Emily) and Chad James; future daughter-in-law, Lillie White; and grandchildren, Jasmine, Jameel and Jeremiah.
Gene graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1968, and after serving in the United States Navy for two years, returned to Tuscaloosa. He worked a variety of laboring jobs throughout his life and retired in 2001.
He was a simple man that loved his Alabama Football, Levi Garrett Chewing Tobacco and Fried Fish from the City Cafe.
Services will be at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North in Northport, Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 2:30 p.m., with visitation starting the hour prior. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Northport. Please dress casually.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Tuscaloosa VA, Voluntary Services Division.
The family would like to express special gratitude to the staff at the Tuscaloosa VA, the VA Medical Foster Care system, and to Clay and Florea Sanding of Carrollton, Alabama for their care for Gene during this time. The family would also like to express their praise to God for Brother Harold Whitt, who ministered to Gene and led him to the Lord.
