Daniel "Danny" G. Misko

October 26, 1950 – January 20, 2022

Daniel “Danny” Misko, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 20th, 2022. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with burial following in Memory Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa C. Misko; parents, Daniel J. and Maryann Misko; and brother, Bill Misko.

He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Misko and Angie Misko Cunningham (Bobby); grandchildren, Rob, Carlee, and Trinity Cunningham; sister, Diane Vulevich and Danelle Misko; and brother, Jeff Misko (Denise).

Danny was an incredibly gifted left-handed pitcher, playing locally for Tuscaloosa Post 34, then for Gulf Coast State College. In 1968, he was drafted by the New York Mets and, in 1969, by the Cincinnati Reds. He signed with the Reds; however, the U.S. Army also drafted him to go serve in the Vietnam War. From 1970-1971, he proudly served his country with A Company, 1-502 Infantry Battalion, 101st Airborne Division and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Bronze Star Service Medal. Following his return from Vietnam, he attended the University of Alabama, and then he worked at B.F. Goodrich for 28 years. After he retired, he enjoyed the simple things in life: spending time with his family and friends, reading the paper, doing crossword puzzles, hunting, fishing, driving his Bronco in the Talladega National Forrest, Saturday Steak Nights, and Alabama Football. He enjoyed conversing with his life-long friends over his favorite beverage.

He was the strongest, toughest, and most generous husband, father, and PawPaw. He adored and unconditionally loved his two daughters, son-in-law, and his three grandchildren. Danny Misko was a legend, our hero, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Bobby and Rob Cunningham, John Vulevich, Steve Caldow, Ronnie Stone, and Terry Ussery.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jeff Misko, Bill and Mike Watts, Billy Blakeney, John Bigham; Danny Scarborough, Edwin Brannon; friends and staff from Harry’s.

The family wishes to recognize and sincerely thank Drs. Bostick and Copeland and April Williams, RN, from the Manderson Cancer Center for their exceptional care as well as the RNs, PCAs, and PTAs from 6 SW at DCH for their loving care.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in his memory to one of the following charities he generously supported: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America, or the American Heart Association.
