Johnnie Sue "Jinkie" Golightly Brannon

Johnnie Sue Brannon (Jinkie), who lived her life caring for others, passed away on Sept. 10, 2019. Jinkie was born on August 14, 1950, in Tuscaloosa, AL, to the late Nell (Laycock) and John Frederick Golightly. After her graduation from Tuscaloosa High School in 1968, Jinkie attended dental hygienist school and worked in her father-in-law’s dental practice until his retirement, after which she worked for Dr. Jennifer Wright.

Jinkie cared for everyone around her, especially her family, friends and dearly loved dogs, Tater, Louie, Shy and Mimi. In recent years, Jinkie tirelessly took care of her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Brannon, as if she were her own mother, providing meals and attending to even the smallest of details. Her mother-in-law would often ask what in the world she would do without Jinkie.

Jinkie was preceded in death by her daughter Jennett (Jenny) Sims Brannon; parents, Nell and John Golightly; sisters Christina Golightly and Melanie Golightly; brother David Golightly; brother-in-law Thomas Neal Brannon; and her father-in-law, Dr. Edwin Simpson Brannon, Jr.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 51 years, Edwin S. Brannon III; her daughter Julie (John) Chisolm; sister Diana Kuchera of Mission Viejo, CA; brother William Golightly of Winston-Salem, NC; nephew Robert I. Taylor; great niece Cayla Leigh Cameron; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Beth) Brannon; and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Jennett Brannon. A special thanks to Dianne Bragg who is a close family friend.

A gathering of friends will be held at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South on Wednesday September 18, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Jinkie’s memory be honored by donations to the West Alabama Humane Society.
