BIRMINGHAM Katherine H. Pickett, age 90, of Birmingham, died Nov. 30, 2007, in Vestavia Hills. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Otis Brooks, the Pastor Emeritus of Vestavia Hills Baptist, officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by William L. Pickett.

Survivors include her sons, Dr. Terry. H. Pickett (Gisela) of Birmingham, Edward P. Pickett (Norva) of Charlotte, N.C., and William Courtland Pickett (DeAnna) of Rock Hill, S.C.; her grandchildren, Jessica V. Pickett of Long Island, N.Y., Alex Pickett of Atlanta, Ga., Clare Pickett of Paris, and Bess Pickett of Charlotte, N.C.; and her great grandchild, Benjamin Carruth Pickett of Atlanta, Ga.

Katherine Hill Pickett, a forty-four year resident of Tuscaloosa and Business and Office teacher at Tuscaloosa High School, died at the age of 90 at Mount Royal Towers in Vestavia Hills on Friday, November 30, 2007.

Katherine Pickett was the widow of William Lewis Pickett, an Appeals Referee with the State of Alabama. She was born in Sparta, Georgia, and a graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute. She attended Georgia State College for Women, later earning a Master's Degree from The University of Alabama. After dedicating more than a decade raising three boys, she began teaching at her alma mater, ASI, and transferred later to the Tuscaloosa School System after her husband took a position with the state. After retirement, she continued to teach in Continuing Studies at The University of Alabama until physical ailments forced her to move to Birmingham to be closer to her son.

Pickett was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, and most recently, Vestavia Hills Baptist. Pickett was active in civic organizations, volunteering at Tuscaloosa Library, Arts Council, and delivering Meals-on-Wheels for many years. She was also a member of the Tuscaloosa Music Club and the Astra Study Club.

Pallbearers will be Jack Armistead, Dr. Calvin McCulloh, Roger Williams, Cary Williams, Craig Williams, Locke Williams, Judge Albert Pickett, Tom Pickett, and Capt. "USA" Robert Buchanan.
