TUSCALOOSA Mary Alice Kemp, age 77, of Tuscaloosa, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Heritage Health Care. Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bobby Joe Kemp; father, Charles W. Gross; mother, Susie F. Gross; father-in-law, Jessie R. Kemp; mother-in-law, Carrie F. Kemp; sister, Margaret McCain; and sister-in-law, Kate Dunn.

She is survived by her sons, David Kemp (Cynthia), Charles Kemp (Sheron), Richard Kemp (Melinda), and Robert Kemp (Kim); her sister-in-law, Charlotte Rowland (Curt); her grandchildren, Heath Hudson, Hunter Hudson, Lindsey Hinton, Alex Smith, Nicol Smith, Justin Kemp, Samuel Kemp, Shelley Boockholdt, Matthew Kemp, Kevin Kemp, Katie Kemp, Kolby Kemp, Keri Jo Kemp, and Elijah Kemp; her great-grandchildren, Crimson Hudson, Gabriella Hudson, Annie Isbell, Charlotte Hinton, Katherine Kemp, and Natalie Stroud; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Alice grew up in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, where she would later teach physical education for many years. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Education and was a member of the Million Dollar Band.

She and Bobby Joe spent their married lives raising their sons and serving the Lord. Together they enjoyed traveling and camping. They enjoyed their many trips with Builders for Christ helping others. Mary Alice also enjoyed volunteering at the Christian Family Ministries.

Pallbearers will be Hayse Boyd, Vial Fontenot, Tommy Spencer, Drew White, Eddie Tinsley, and Joe Tinsley.

Honorary pallbearers include Hayse Boyd's Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Second Hand Rose Ministry of First Baptist Church, doctors and staff at Internal Medicine Associates, doctors and staff at Center for Rheumatic Diseases, staff and employees at Merrill Gardens in Northport and Heritage Health Care and Rehabilitation Station 2, and many friends in the teaching profession.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amedisys Hospice of Tuscaloosa, the Diabetes Foundation, DCH Cancer Foundation, First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, or the .
