Reported in the Tuscaloosa News, Saturday, May 26, 2001:

Dan Russell Mims, 52, died May 24, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center.  Services will be held at Memory Chapel today at 2 pm with Rev. George Fields officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. George W. Mims, Jr. and one sister, Mary Lou Swanger.  Survivors include his sisters Clara Faye Collins (Bill) of Cottondale and Hilda E. Darnell of Tuscaloosa.

Mr. Mims was born April 6, 1949.  He had worked for West Alabama Bottling for many years and lived in the Holt community.

 

Dayton Hale, who was a member of the Tuscaloosa High Wrestling Team, remembers Dan this way.  “Dan was a dedicated member of the wrestling team.  As I recall, he also served as the equipment manager for the team.  He was popular with his teammates, and encouraged them to excel in practice and in matches.”
